Commenting on this deal Pim Zandee, Smit Marine’s Executive Director, said, “We are very pleased to have been able to conclude this deal. Smit Marine has always been committed to the advancement of Black Economic Empowerment in the maritime industry, and we support the initiatives taken by the National Department of Transport (NDOT) in this regard. Our record in terms of partnering with BEE companies and cadet training speaks for itself. This is another milestone for us.” Mr. Dumisani Ntuli, Marine Manager at the National Department of Transport, speaking in support of the initiative said the NDOT has begun a process of developing a black economic empowerment framework for the maritime industry. “Smit Marine has been part of this process from the outset and it is good to see them respond in a manner befitting their size and nature of business. We wish their new partnership with Fairbreeze Marine well and hope others will learn from it.” Oginga-Odinga Madinda, Fairbreeze Diagnostics managing partner added that Smit Marine was being visionary by entrusting a relatively young Black Economic Empowerment company with such a big responsibility. “Our side of the bargain is to ensure that delivering on the service level agreements we have entered into attains this vision. Our collective experience within the petro-marine industries makes us believe that we can do just that.”
